Women in Construction Week

March 6 – March 12 in 2022 is Women in Construction Week, believe to have been started in 1953 by sixteen women in Fort Worth to as a way to support the few women that worked in construction. This small group grew to become NAWIC “National Association of Women in Construction”, a national organization that offers support, education and networking to create awareness and opportunities in construction for women.

Anyone working in the construction space is aware that women are underrepresented. Statistically I have found is that about 10% of the industry is made up of women, while women make up about 47% of the total workforce. Anyone working in construction also knows that the industry is in dire need of workers. Wouldn’t it make sense to tap into that 47% to fill those job openings? We are women - hear us, see us and hire us.

Here we are in 2022 and we are celebrating progress, but have so much more to achieve.

Awareness is the key to success. As in so many other aspects of life, we need to bring awareness to a fabulous group of Women and a fabulous opportunity to engage.
